US Open Golf 2010: After Dustin Johnson's Meltdown, McDowell Back in Lead

Thomas MorelandJun 20, 2010

It's Ernie Els and Graeme McDowell at the top of the leaderboard now at Pebble Beach as Dustin Johnson has crashed and burned on his favorite track.

A triple, double, and bogey start has left Johnson a brainless shell walking along the cliffs, contemplating a leap.

Tiger Woods has bogeyed three out of six holes to start and is six shots off the pace at plus two.

The Frenchman Gregory Havret, meanwhile, has birdied two out of the first six holes, trying to become the first French player to win the US Open.

Tiger made a birdie on seven to get one back and is at plus two. He is Five shots back.

Your leaderboard currently reads: McDowell minus four, Havret minus one, Ernie Els at even, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson at plus one, Tiger Woods and Davis Love III plus two, and Alex Cejka plus three.

As I have stated in previous articles, even par could very well win this tournament.

McDowell seems relaxed and is holing his must make putts with no hesitation to keep the lead at two.

Ernie Els was in the thick of it, but was left climbing along a grass covered cliff at the tenth overlooking the beach, with people gazing up at him in sunglassed oblivion to what this actually means.

Els made double and dropped to even par, and fell farther behind McDowell.

Now it looks like the US  Open may come down to a duel between an Irishman and a Frenchman.

Grame McDowell is now at minus four with a trciky par putt, and Havret is at minus one. These are the only players left under par on the course.

There is, however, a lot of golf left. The first pair has 10 holes to play in this 2010 US Open. We'll see if McDowell is still at the top of the leaderboard when all is said and done.
