After Wizards Draft Wall, Whats Next For Arenas?

brandon LamJun 16, 2010

When the Washington Wizards select Kentucky's point guard John Wall with the first pick in the 2010 NBA draft, their organization will now have to decided about what they want to do with three-time all star Gilbert Arenas. Arenas has four years $80 million left on his contract and while he still remains impossible to trade because of his large contract, Washington and Arenas could decided to agee on a buyout.

The buyout remains tricky, because it would be the most money a player has received in NBA history on buyout.New owner Ted Leonsis, does not want to spend maximum money on player to get rid of.Or Washington, could just decided to keep Arenas and put everything that happen in the past behind them.

Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld, has said numerous times that Arenas would be back with the team. However, with all the distractions Arenas has called to the organization Grunfeld has to evaluate him and decided what will be best for both parties. Arenas is phenomial player he loves the attention, media, the spotlight. However, if he is with the team next season he will have to change his role and understand that he is no longer the franchise player.

He has fallen under the radar the last couple of years. When people talk about the Chris Paul and Deron Williams of the league, you don't hear Arenas' name in that discussion because he has not been playing for almost three seasons now.

He and Wall has to lead the team in the right direction, because Washington can not afford to have another lottery season for the third year in a row.If the two can find a way to coexist, they will be great in the back court together. They can play off one another and cause a lot of problems for a lot of teams. Arenas would be moved to shooting guard, a position that will fit him the best since he likes to shoot the ball often. Arenas supposedly likes the idea of him and wall in the back court,it reminds him when he shared the back court with guard Larry Hughes.

What ever direction the organization decides to go in the team is still in rebuilding mode. They have multiple positions where they need to address, including small forward and center. However, the team looks like they are headed in a good direction. They are trying to start fresh with draft picks and try to acquire free agents in which, will be the biggest NBA free agent class in history.
