2010 NBA Finals Game Seven: 7 Things to Watch For in the Critical Last Game

James BrownJun 16, 2010

Seventh Heaven in the NBA Finals

It’s going to happen.  After six grueling games the NBA Finals will have a game seven between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. This is exactly what all the fans wanted to see. There is only one game left between bitter rivals for the championship on the line.

Here are seven things to watch for in game seven of the NBA Finals.

7) The odds to win it all: BET US.com opened the Lakers up as seven point favorites which is no surprise after the big win and since they have home court advantage. The Best Line on the Celtics is +7.5 at Diamond Sports and the best line for the Lakers is -7 at Bet Jamaica. Check out the Top Ten Sportsbooks for the latest odds on game six of the NBA Finals.

6) Kobe’s MVP award ceremony: Regardless of the outcome of the final game Kobe Bryant will get some hardware on Thursday night. With apologies to Paul Pierce, Kobe Bryant has been the best player on the floor and is deserving of this award.

5) Which Big Man is playing? Andrew Bynum tried to play but was removed early and did not return with the game in hand for the Lakers. Kendrick Perkins went down for the Celtics with an ailing knee and his future status is up in the air. Both big men want to play in game seven, but it’s unclear if they will or how long they will stay in the game if they do suit up.

4) Rondo’s Challenge: In game six the Lakers challenged Rajon Rondo to shoot and left him uncovered outside the paint all night long. He responded with a bad shooting night and the Lakers may have found a way to beat Rondo by letting him shoot. He will need a big game if the Celtics want to win.

3) Bench Play: In game six heading into the third quarter the Lakers bench outscored the Celtics bench 24-0. In previous games it was the Celtics bench that owned the court.  The bench is the deciding factor in this series and could be the reason why one team wins it all.

2) Rasheed or Big Baby? Sources say Perkins “is done” for game seven. That means Doc Rivers will have to choose between Rasheed Wallace or Glen Davis to insert into his starting lineup.  Glen Davis knows the offense better but Rasheed Wallace brings a veteran angle to an intense game. This choice could make a big difference in the game.

1) A First for Phil Jackson: It is rare that the finals go to game seven and surprisingly it is the first time Phil Jackson has ever coached a game seven in the finals. He is one of the best coaches to ever coach in the NBA and it will be interesting to see if anything changes.

It’s a game seven of the NBA Finals and it’s the Lakers vs. the Celtics! If you need any more reason than this to watch this game you might want to check your pulse because it has all the makings of a great one!
