Lakers vs. Celtics Game 6: Kendrick Perkins Is The Real MVP
Perkins went out early in the 89-67 Lakers win over the Celtics. From a defensive standpoint the Lakers crushed the Celtics but both times Perkins has gone out, the Celtics have been a completely different team.
At first, I didn’t really think much of Perkins injury except for the fact its part of the game. But, after watching it on youtube a few times I am starting to think that it was more intentional than an accident, because Perkins is probably the most underrated Celtic on the team.
Perkins doesn’t score a lot of points but he plays great defense and can matchup well against the bigger players on the team like Bynum and Gasol. Without him in the game they can’t keep up with the Lakers. Look at Big Baby and Rasheed Wallace, they overpower those guys. However, when they revert back to their bench role, they play great. That is why the news over his injury will be what this series will come down to.
If the news is that Perkins is out for game seven then the series is over and Kobe Bryant will have his fifth ring.
As crazy as this may sound, perhaps Perkins is the real MVP of the team. Both times he has gone out, in the playoffs, they played terrible. When he is in, they continue to play like the team that has propelled them this far in the playoffs. He allows everyone on the Celtics to do their job. Now I leave one last thought watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4geaMUOX3w and decide if Perkins injury was an accident or a cheap way to win a championship.
