The One Man Who Could Keep LeBron In Cleveland... Chris Paul?

Phil ConstableJun 11, 2010

Tom Izzo, John Calipari, Phil Jackson. All of these names have been linked with the Cavaliers however none of them secure the king's signature for next year. However I get the impression that the Hornets' PG isn't best pleased with his current situation in New Orleans and may want to bolt for a better one next year.

Now you might be sitting, reading this thinking that I'm completely insane but before you hit the 'back' button, just hear me out.

Firstly the team, because it's too weak in many parts and too good in others. Last year the Hornets went 37-45, missing the playoffs. This was partly due to Paul's injury problems but also because of the fact CP3 has a a worse supporting cast than the Cavs had, and that's not easy to do. Plus with no cap room and only the 11th pick in the draft you can't see them getting a decent enough team to compete for a good few years yet. However the Hornets do have one conceivable running mate for Paul, the problem is he plays the same position. Darren Collison had a great rookie season last year averaging 18.8 points and 9.1 assists, this means he'll need more playing time next year which could also be a factor in pushing Paul out of the door.

The one thing for me that may well make CP3 more inclined to leave though is the fact that he plays in the western conference, if you take the Hornets and put them in the east then they'd be a solid playoff team but out west with Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Portland, Utah and Oklahoma City all in the mix to compete next year for those mid playoff spots in what is an ultra competetive west, the Hornets will struggle to even make the playoffs let alone compete for the title.

If Paul were to request a trade then you can guarantee new Cavs GM Chris Grant would be on his doorstep within minutes with chocolates and flowers to try and get what Lebron is desperate for; a true sidekick superstar.

Now if the deal were to go ahead and the Cavaliers got CP3 and subsequently King James, while dumping some of their overrated trash in the process, then put yourself in Chris Bosh's shoes. You can either go to Miami with Dywane Wade (28) and mabye Joe Johnson (28) or you can go with James (25) and Paul (25) where not only do you have a better, younger set of superstars but also a slightly better supporting cast giving him not only a better chance to win immediately but also over a prolonged period of time.

It won't happen, in fact there's a better chance of Chris Bosh re-signing with Toronto but if it did just think of the possibilities of three of the best players in league all together to bring that long awaited title the people of Cleveland have been waitng 46 years for
