Boston Celtics Bench Ties NBA Finals at Two Games Apiece
It wasn't Rajon Rondo. It wasn't Ray Allen. It wasn't Paul Pierce. It wasn't Kevin Garnett. It was the bench of the Celtics, led by Glen Davis and Nate Robinson, who led the Celtics to a huge game four victory to tie the series at two. Davis finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds while Robinson had 12 key points.
It was with 8:22 left in the fourth quarter when Glen Davis, drool flying from his mouth, brought the Boston Garden down. After a Tony Allen missed lay-up, Davis grabbed the offensive rebound, and made the lay-up, and a foul. The game was never the same after that.
The Big Baby was a man possessed, and would not be denied. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a player as fired up as Davis was, and for a good reason. He was having fun out there, and this was evident when he was dancing as his free throw dropped in.
Along with the great play of Davis and Robinson, was Tony Allen. Although he did not fill up the stat sheet, his presence was felt with his defense on Kobe Bryant.
The Celtics won this game because of balanced play. They had six players in double figures, and no players over 20 points, compared the the Lakers' three players in double figures. It's hard to stop Kobe Bryant any night, and although he had 33 points, you cannot discredit Tony Allen. Even Paul Pierce, who had been missing in action since game one showed up, and led the Celtics in scoring with 19 points.
This series sure has the look that it's going seven games, but if the Lakers win game five, I like their odds to close it out at home. For the Celtics, this was a season-saving win, and now at two games apiece, it's anyone's series. Game four has just ended, but can game five just happen already? I can't wait.
