Is Rudy Fernandez Really Going to Europe?
A Spanish news site called Marca, reported that Rudy Fernandez, has signed with the European basketball team Real Madrid.
The report claimed that he had been signed by Real Madrid for three seasons at $2.8 million a year.
It also said that Rudy looks forward to being a cornerstone of the team in Europe.
When asked about the report, Rudy just laughed and said that he has not made contact with any European teams and that he is a Portland Trail Blazer right now.
Rudy Fernandez had a great rookie season off the bench last year, but he has had issues with his role on the team this year and has reportedly been feeling lonely.
A reason for that is the trading away of fellow Spaniard Sergio Rodriguez. Most of Rudy's points in his rookie year were off Sergio's passes; when Sergio left so did Rudy's production.
He has openly said to the media that he will request to be traded if he doesn't have a bigger role on the team next year.
That seems to be a problem because of Portland's depth at most positions. Rudy Fernandez has the talent to be a starter on most NBA teams, but he is having to play behind three-time all-star Brandon Roy.
Sergio Rodriguez has recently signed with Real Madrid, and if they are really close friends, is it possible that he goes to Europe and reunites with Sergio?
I think it's just random rumors created by the media. From what I see, Rudy will either be traded to another NBA team by the Trail Blazers, or he will remain with the team.
I don't see him going to Europe with all the talent he has.
