It's true, I swear.

If all reports are true, Tom Thibodeau has accepted a three-year offer to become the head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

And yes he is a member of New Britain Sports Hall of Fame . If you don't believe me look it up.

Thibodeau has been on the Bulls radar for the past couple years, even being considered when the man he is replacing, Vinny Del Negro, was hired two seasons ago.

The plan was at first to hire Mike D'Antoni to be head coach and run his "7 seconds or less" offense while Tom would have tried to get the team to play defense.

After D'Antoni bolted for New York, Tom's name was mentioned but ultimately nothing came of it. The news of his hiring comes almost exactly a month after Vinny was let go.

Bulls vice-president of operations John Paxson and general manager Gar Foreman had traveled out to Los Angles to interview Tom before the NBA Finals started on Thursday. The hiring will not be made offical until the Finals have ended.

Tom fits almost everything the Bulls said they wanted in their next head coach during the press conference announcing the firing of Del Negro.

He is an experienced coach. Maybe he doesn't have a lot of head coaching experience but he has been one in the past to go along with his 18 years as an assistant in the NBA.

His teams have made three finals appearances. His teams have finished in the top 10 in team defense 14 times.

It may seem like the Bulls were not actively searching for their new head coach but they did a lot behind the scenes. They reached out to the likes of Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers and probably made a phone call to Coach K and Coach Cal, but let's be honest, besides Cal, why would any of those guys leave their current jobs.

They probably ran through the list of all the retreads available like Jeff Van Gundy, Lawrence Frank, and Byron Scott and decided those guys had failed in the past for a reason. It has been rumored if Thibodeau passed, Frank would have been the guy.

The Bulls took their time and unless the new Nets billionaire owner convinces Phil or Coach K to come to New Jersey/Newark/Brooklyn or wherever they are going to be playing, they probably got the best guy available.

Thibodeau is very well respected among all the players he has coached and is extremely dedicated spending hours and hours of watching film and should fit very well with John Paxson.

The newest rumor is that Tom will be bringing in Mo Cheeks to be one of his assistants, which will bring some more home flavor to the Bulls and might become the new guy whispering into Derrick Rose's ear.

Hopefully everything works out and we don't have another Dave McGinnis situation on our hands.

But if it works out I am very happy with the hire and look forward to the Bulls season, no matter which free agents they sign, because you know what they say the best offense is a good defense.

Quick side note, anyone else think it is interesting that Thibodeau passed on the Hornets coaching job and decided on the Bulls? Could it say something about Chris Paul in comparison to Derrick Rose?
