Kevin Garnett....What Happened?
As many of you know, the the "rejuvenated" Celtics had simply no answer to the Lakers in game one. They were completely outmatched in every way. The Lakers had control of the tempo and pace of the game, they out-rebounded the Celtics and they displayed more physical toughness and hustle.
However one aspect of the game stood out for me, and that was the abysmal play of Kevin Garnett. Before the game Phil Jackson stated that the match-up between Gasol and Garnett was the key battle of the game. Well let’s just put it this way....Gasol outplayed Garnett like a pair of Spanish maracas.
Garnett shot 7-16 from the field; he was missing shots that he would usually make. One notable miss was his failed....i don’t know what to call it, he was sort of going up for a dunk and didn’t jump too high so decided to lay it up in mid-air for it to be rim-checked. Let’s call it the La-unk invented by Garnett, perhaps he needs some practice on it.
(i even gave a video cause I’m that nice)
Even the fact that he had 4 rebounds all game. FOUR!!!!! What happened???
Paul Pierce, a small forward....SMALL forward, led the team in rebounding with 9! Something is clearly wrong with those stats.
Compared to Gasol who 14 rebounds on his own.
Anyways i want to figure out the possibilities of what happened to KG's game.
1. Gasol has simply improved from 2008; he's been taking his calcium and has grown tougher.
2. Garnett is still injured and has limited his effectiveness (in fairness who isn’t injured at this time of year)
3. Garnett has simply become too old
4. Adam Morrison who was not selected on the roster was able to disguise himself as a janitor (with that dodgy moustache shouldn’t be too hard) and slip something into KG's drink. Yayyy the Lakers found some use for him.
I simply don’t know, should be interesting to see how the rest of the series turns out for him.
By the way, even though I'm a Lakers fan, I have a great deal of respect for the KG, his heart and passion for the game is inspiring. However i know he can play better than this. I was merely surprised by his performance.
