The
Portland Trail Blazers are a team that have starters that will be on their team for the next few years except for one spot, the point guard. The point guard spot has been a problem for the Blazers and since Andre Miller is already 33 years old, do the Blazers have someone who is capable of stepping in and playing starter's minutes at the point guard position and creating shots for others?
Right now the Blazers are trying to develop Jerryd Bayless into a traditional point guard.Bayless seems to have a nice upside but his progress will depend mostly on how willing he is to learn. He has to improve his jump shot since you have to be able to spread the floor if you want to be successful playing alongside Brandon Roy.
I think Bayless is more of a scoring guard because he has a scorer's mentality.I think the Blazers would be best suited with a PG that doesn't take too many shots, plays good defense and knocks down open 3s. I think this because the Blazers already have capable scorers in their starting lineup with Roy,Aldridge,Batum and Oden. A PG who will distribute the ball among them fairly would really compliment this lineup. The PG would probably have to play a role similar to Jason Kidd's on the
Mavericks. They have a lot of scoring weapons so he doesn't look for his own shot, he just gets the best shot for the team.
So overall I think the Blazers should not settle for developing Bayless into eventually taking over the starting PG's role.He will be pretty good as an offensive spark off the bench in my opinion. They need to go for a true PG who will run the team's offense efficiently.
