LeBron James: In the Shoes of a King

Mark MooreMay 24, 2010

Let’s take a second and think about this. If you were LeBron James what would you do?

Do you leave and try to pursue your dream of riches and a NBA championship elsewhere? Or do you stay and give Gilbert and Ferry one more shot at securing serviceable players to aid in your hunt for your allusive first ring?

These have to be some of the questions going through LeBron James' head as you read this article.

The accomplishment of winning a NBA championship and bringing it back to Cleveland would be far greater than doing it for any other city.

Just ask any Cleveland sports fan what it would mean to them.

But Kevin Garnett said it best, “If I would have known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have stayed in Minnesota so long.”

The allure of a bigger city with a bigger market is very appealing. The decision cannot be made lightly.

In fact it may be the biggest decision ever made by a professional athlete.

LeBron's decision could seriously change the makeup of the NBA. If he goes out west it would shift the scale of talent lopsidedly to that conference. If he stays in the east, but goes with a team other than the Cavaliers, it would change the makeup of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

LeBron has made it clear he wants an NBA championship and he wants to be a billionaire. With the world in his right hand and a hand full of money in his left, who really knows what LeBron will do. All spectators can do is wait until July 1 to get a better feel.

I was born and raised in the Akron/Canton area. I know what it is to be a Cleveland professional sports fan. LeBron leaving would just be another blow to the fans of Northeastern Ohio.

But, if the King can win a ring elsewhere can we really blame him for going after his dream?
