Leg Warmers – check, Head band – check, Leotard and tights – check… You are now officially an 80’s workout queen with Olivia Newton-John’s popular music “Let’s get Physical” playing on the background…
That’s the same battle cry the Boston Celtics have been doing ever since knocking out the number one seed Cleveland Cavaliers (minus the costume of course) for the Eastern Conference finals against the number 2 seed Orlando Magic. Dwight Howard is a monster all throughout the season and playoffs, knocking out those lanky and physically unblessed centers and forwards, dominating the paint and swatting the ball with those enormous hands. The Magic’s success has been solely dependent on Howard’s massive shoulders. Rashard Lewis is a good shooter and Vince Carter still has hops but they lack consistency on which where Howard automatically fills in. It’s really easy to control the Magic, stop Howard and you win the ball game… easier said than done.
The Celtics can out run or out gun the Magic but their bruised body and old legs can only take as much punishment so they have no other choice but to play fire with fire and let Howard taste his own medicine actually it’s the Celtics bread and butter… their physical defense. They were known for that type of defense even winning a championship ring against the Lakers. They know how to control Howard and they’ve been successful most of the time. They push, shove, elbow, pull the chair trick and foul Dwight so hard that you might think someone’s hand might have been amputated. It’s like watching the royal rumble with Andre the Giant against the world.
So far the Celtics are successful winning 2 games to none credit to their team’s defense and to the group of guys wearing head bands with Olivia Newton-John’s song on their mind… (By the way the tights comes in purple, fuchsia, orange and loyal blue).
