Goran "Dragon" Dragic and the Fire-Breathing Phoenix Suns
Okay...first off...everyone who is not a Phoenix Suns fan who has ever heard of Goran Dragic, raise your hand. Uh huh...Just as I thought...no hands. Heck...I'd bet that even some Suns' fans had never heard of him before last night.
I'm an avid fan of the NBA and I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to Google the guy just to see what he looked like. But after his "flaming" performance last night in Game Three of the Suns-Spurs series, I had to see who this guy is.
I mean...everyone knows who Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, and Grant Hill are...but Goran Dragic?
"The Dragon" rose up off the Suns' bench to fire up 26 points...23 in the fourth quarter (that's right....TWENTY THREE...MJ's and LeBron's number) to lead the red-hot Suns to a 110-96 road victory over the now "flame-broiled" Spurs.
The Suns now have a historically-precedented insurmountable 3-0 series lead. The Spurs on the other hand should start now making reservations for tee times and fishing excursions before all the good slots are taken by the Hawks, Celtics and Jazz.
The Suns are playing stellar basketball at the moment. If not for the Orlando Magic and MAYBE the Lakers (pending their Game Three with the Jazz tonight), I would say that the Suns are hottest (pun intended) team in the playoffs right now. An imminent Western Conference finals comprising the Suns vs Lakers is shaping up to be a series of epic proportions.
But back to "The Dragon." In the postgame interviews, Suns head coach Alvin Gentry referred to Dragic as his "secret weapon." That has to be the understatement of the young millennium. Dragic was so secret that the CIA, FBI, and Interpol are still trying to discern who he is.
I wonder if the NBA and Suns' front offices even know who he is. I think that NBA commissioner David Stern should launch an investigation, as the "The Dragon" may be league-illegally playing for free! Just kidding...sorta.
