Boldin Headed To Ravens But Why Not Chicago

Michael GibbonsMar 7, 2010

Friday night the Arizona Cardinals trade wideout Anquan Boldin and a 5th round pick in this year's draft to Baltimore for a 3rd and 4th round pick. Boldin then agreed to a three year extension with his new team.

Boldin will provide quarterback Joe Flacco a go to receiver in his prime, with no offense to Derrick Mason, is something he hasn't had his first two seasons.

When the news broke about Boldin my good Bears buzz, that I had all day after they went big and signed Julius Peppers along with Chester Taylor and Brandan Manumaleuma, died.

Boldin would have been a huge upgrade and given Jay Cutler exactly what he was missing last year.

However Jerry is of the thinking that the quarterback makes the receiver instead of the receiver making the qb. But why not both? Wouldn't it have just make sense to combine two pro bowl caliber players. Wouldn't Jay make Boldin better and I know Boldin would make Cutler look great.

Is a 3rd & 4th too much for the Bear to give up this draft considering they have already given up their 1st to Denver to Cutler and their 2nd to Tampa for the late Gaines Adams?

Maybe but maybe something could have been worked out like including tight end Dallas Clark or Greg Olson who may not have a place in the new offense.

I don't know but if the young Bears receiving corp struggles we can all look back as this as another missed opportunity.
