Boldin To Bears For Third Round Pick

Michael GibbonsMar 4, 2010

That's right. It is being reported by Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network that all the Cardinals are asking for is a third round draft pick.

The main reason that the asking price has been lowered is because Boldin is entering the final year of his contract. Last off season is was rumored that they were looking for a first round pick, a later round pick probably a 4th or 5th plus a player but then around draft time they were willing to accept a second rounder.

A third round pick is the earliest pick the Bears have in this draft after including their first round pick in the Jay Cutler trade last off-season and they sent their second round pick to Tampa for the late Gaines Adams who passed away a little over a month ago.

Boldin, who will turn 30 during the upcoming season, had his best season in 2005 catching 102 passes for over 1,400 yards. He has had five 1,000 yard receiving seasons during his seven year career, six of those seasons he has been paired with Larry Fitzgerald. Besides his age and him playing along side Fitzgerald a minus with Boldin is that he has only played in all 16 games twice. He has played in 95 out of 122 games

However it also makes his stats look more impressive. During the 2005 season he averaged 100 yards a game. He has caught 586 balls for 7,520 yards for a 12.8 yard per catch average while grabbing 44 touchdowns.

Anquan would be a huge upgrade for the Bears who currently have Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu as their top four receivers. Those four combined have totaled 3,359 with 1,700 of those belonging to Devin Hester over the last three seasons. Subtract 96 yards that Aromashodu got for the Colts in 2007 and the rest of the yards all came during this past season.

Boldin would provide veteran leadership to a very young group while also giving Jay Cutler a proven probowl quality receiver.

If I am Jerry and Lovie I am making this trade yesterday. What does everyone think?
