Michigan Wolverines Monday: Weekend Recruiting News

Big House BobFeb 22, 2010

Michigan hosted its second Junior Day of the recruiting season this past weekend. Whether you love or hate Rich Rodriguez, you have to admit he has brought a number of positive new events to the Michigan football program. Having multiple Junior Days gets players on campus, familiarizes them with the university, and makes them more comfortable with the idea of becoming a future Wolverine.

Some news and notes from Junior Day:

  • Shawn Conway committed to the 2011 class this weekend. One thing missing from my post yesterday was his junior year stats. Per Sam Web of WTKA and Scout: 79 catches, 800 yards, and 10 touchdowns. In basketball, he also averages a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards a game.
  • 2011 Athlete Cheatem Norrils from Toledo, Ohio made it to Junior Day.
  • The best player in Wisconsin, Melvin Gordon (RB/WR) made it to Ann Arbor this weekend. He currently has offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa.
  • Andre Walker, a 6'5", 355-pound offensive tackle from Glenville in Ohio was by far the biggest guy there. Glenville is basically an OSU High School, but having the prospect in Ann Arbor this early is a very good sign for the Wolverines.
  • James Ross, Jr. was given an offer to join the 2012 class. So yes, Michigan is in early on the top in-state prospect two years from now.
  • Four-star DE Brennen Beyer from Plymouth, MI was in Ann Arbor on Saturday, and MSU on Sunday
  • 2011 RB/WR prospect Justice Hayes from Grand Blanc was in Ann Arbor.
  • AJ Jordan, a WR prospect from Trotwood-Madison in Ohio made the trip north for the weekend. Michigan has signed three prospects from Trotwood in recent years: Shaw, Roundtree, and Moore.
  • 2011 DT prospect from Ohio, Kevin Williams also made it in.
