Geno Smith, Garrett Wilson Explain Heated Sideline Exchange on Video in Jets' Loss to Dolphins

Andrew PetersOct 25, 2026

Garrett Wilson was clearly upset with quarterback Geno Smith during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, and he broke down his frustration after the game.

The wide receiver said the heated discussion was about getting him the ball in big moments.

"I want it in my hands to try to make an impact," Wilson told reporters. "That's all we were talking about, how we can make that happen."

Smith didn't quite recall the encounter, but said he didn't think Wilson was yelling at him.

Wilson added that it was a collaborative conversation rather than an argument.

"We were collaborating. I don't even think I was talking to Geno," Wilson said. "I think we were both heated, but not at each other at all. We were just disappointed with how we were playing up to that point and wanted to be a little more aggressive."

Despite the 28-25 loss, Smith had a decent day with 287 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson was hardly a factor, though, recording just two receptions for 26 yards. Omar Cooper Jr. led the way in the passing game with 115 yards and a touchdown.

While things seemed to have boiled over between Wilson and Smith on Sunday, it seems the two teammates aren't harboring any feelings of negativity. They'll look to bounce back from the loss and pick up a win against the Las Vegas Raiders next week.
