2010 NFL Draft: Tim Tebow Is Admired by Browns GM Heckert, Is This a Sign?

Daniel WolfFeb 3, 2010

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has taken so much heat the past week with his performances during practices and the Senior Bowl, but Cleveland Browns General Manager Tom Heckert is "impressed" with the quarterback and his abilities.

The past two seasons with his former team the Philadelphia Eagles, Heckert has picked great offensive talent like: WR DeSean Jackson, WR Jeremy Maclin, and RB LeSean McCoy.

The one thing Browns President Mike Holmgren has said regarding the Browns current state is that he will be focusing on building a better offense.

The Browns need more talent on offense, that's for sure.

Holmgren was amazed that the team was able to win its last four games of the 2009 season solely on a running game that surprisingly could not be stopped and with a passing game that was nearly flat-lined.

The quarterback position is obviously getting a lot of Holmgren's attention, since he is a guru of evaluating the position and Heckert will most likely help Holmgren's offensive by grabbing from a very talented pool of college players in April's NFL Draft.

A quarterback may be a target now.

It has been reported by cleveland.com, that Heckert is looking at Tebow very highly because of his abilities, brains, passion, and he seemingly endless drive to succeed at the NFL level despite the many critics.

Heckert believes that Tebow is an NFL quarterback and what he might lack now is compensated by his other attributes.

As far as Tebow's mechanics are concerned, Heckert also believes that those can be corrected with good coaching.

The real question is does Holmgren have the same view of Tebow?

He has not commented on the matter, but does Heckert believe that Tebow may be in the future for the Browns via the draft?

Tebow's stock has fallen and many mock drafts are projecting him to be picked in the second or third round now, which would be a great value due to his talent and the minimal money that would have to be invested into Tebow's development.

It is very surprising to hear someone in the Browns' front office actually talk about a quarterback not named Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson.

Is this a clue to where the Browns' front office is at in the evaluation of Quinn and Anderson?

It very well could be.
