2010 Top 15 Catchers Rankings

Here’s an early look at Catcher Rankings.

1.  Joe Mauer – Joe removed any doubt with his MVP season.

2.  Victor Martinez – The Sox will need V-Mart to make up for Jason Bay’s lost bat. He killed it with Boston hitting .336 with 41 RBI in 56 games.

3.  Brian McCann – McCann got off to a slow start, but was a force when he got his eyes fixed. He had 61 RBI from July through September.

4.  Matt Wieters – The expectation level couldn’t have been higher for Weiters, and he really started to figure it out down the stretch.

5.  Miguel Montero – He was a beast down the stretch hitting .316 with 39 runs,  11 HRs, and 40 RBI after the All-Star Break.

6.  Geovany Soto – Soto was terrible last year hitting .218, but he was so good in 2008 that I’ll roll the dice on him bouncing back.

7.  Kurt Suzuki – One of the few bright spots on the A’s last year with 88 RBI. He’ll probably regress, but should still be a high-end catcher. The addition of Kevin Kouzmanoff should help.

8.  Jorge Posada – The old guy still has some pop in that bat. Playing in the new Yankee Stadium doesn’t hurt matters.

9.  Bengie Molina – Where he lands is still up in the air, but he’s been one of the better hitting catchers for several years now.

10.  Yadier Molina – He won’t hit many HRs, but he hits for average and drives in 50+ RBI.

11.  Mike Napoli – Napoli brings solid power from the catcher slot.

12.  Russell Martin – His numbers have declined the past couple years, but he’ll be 27 when the season starts and should be able to bounce back.

13.  Ryan Doumit – Was injured much of last year, but is an above average hitting catcher would should be on the rise in 2010.

14.  Chris Iannetta – He’ll have to hold off newcomer Miguel Olivo, but he’s a nice power option at catcher that should come at a good value.

15.  A.J. Pierzynski – Never a sexy pick, but he can hit for average. He usually gets you around 60 runs, 13 HRs, and 55-60 RBI.
