Allen Iverson Can Help The Cleveland Cavaliers Win It All
I think the Cleveland Cavaliers should give Allen Iverson a shot.
As much as it may seem crazy, it makes a lot of sense to me. Of course, Iverson would have to change up his style, but with things going the way they are for him, he may not have a choice.
He is upset and facing the end of his career. He was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies and declined a contract by the New York Knicks, so who can blame him for being upset.
With that said, here is why the Cavaliers should give him a shot.
1) The end of a great career
Facing the end of his career, Iverson knows he must make a change in order to do what he wants: keep playing. If he can "make that extra pass instead of take the shot," then he can be a huge asset.
And its not like he can't start for Cleveland. Anthony Parker is good and can hit that three, but isn't great. A three point shot like Parker's off the bench could be a huge upgrade.
2) Mo Williams.
I have to give it to Mo Williams. He is developing into a very special player, similar to Derek Fisher of the L.A. Lakers or Jameer Nelson of the Orlando Magic. But there lies the problem.
Fisher and Nelson are the second best guards on their teams next to Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter. I'm not saying Iverson is better than Mo or that he is on Bryant's/Carter's level, but he can be given his career.
An additional point including Mo is that Iverson is a seasoned veteran. Mo disappeared in the Eastern Conference Finals last season. With his experience, Allen is very unlikey to do so. Having Iverson is someone Cavaliers players can lean on when they need someone to "KNOCK THEM DOWN!"
3) Comparisons to Michael Jordan
Jordan had Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant when he won his championships. LeBron has always seeked a team like Jordan had.
With addition of Shaq, he now has one all-star. Williams is also developing into one (he made the team last season). Lebron could use another star on the team. Shaq and Iverson are the great players of the last generation and are what LeBron has needed all of his career.
4) Team Balance
With a threat like Iverson on Cleveland's roster, the team is near perfect balance. LeBron and Iverson can score 30+ on a good night and Williams, Hickson, and O'Neal can score 20+ on a good night.
Daniel Gibson, Parker, JaMario Moon, and Zadrunas Ilgalskus coming off the bench make the scoring a nonstop trend no matter who is on the floor. Anderson Varajao is capable of scoring around 15 on a good night and his energy helps everyones game.
Delonte West rarely sees action, so he can be a fifth guard to bring an boost of energy when needed. Everyone is a threat!
5) Cleveland and LeBron need this
If Iverson were to work out, this Cavaliers team could be amazing. Names like LeBron James, Allen Iverson, and Shaquille O'Neal turn heads. This team could be exactly what Cleveland needs.
The Cavaliers WILL NOT win the NBA championship with their current roster. They aren't consistent, they lose focus late in the game, and they have no "knock down" shooter. Iverson could change all of that.
Cleveland is on the verge of losing its best player in its history. A drastic change needs to be made.
Signing Iverson is that change.
