For sneakerheads, there isn't much that compares to waking up Christmas morning and finding a special-edition pair of kicks underneath the tree before watching some of the planet's best ballers lace up for festive games in unique kicks of their own.

Over the years, Kobe and LeBron have donned some of the most memorable red and green—aka "Grinch"—colorways to ever grace the hardwood.

More historic holiday-themed offerings will undoubtedly emerge Wednesday and beyond, but for now, the following stand the test of time in a hall of fame of sorts.

Nike Kobe 6 "Grinch"

    Release Date: Dec. 25, 2010

    Average Resale Price: $876

Nike wanted to call these the "Green Mamba," but one of the most popular Kobe colorways of all time doesn't fly as anything other than the "Grinch" 6.

Kobe Bryant himself debuted these on Christmas Day 2010, rocking the green-scaled upper and crimson accents against Miami's Big Three in a 96-80 loss. But nobody who has brushed up with the Grinch 6 since has taken an L.

    Release Date: Dec. 26, 2012

    Average Resale Price: $187

The LeBron X "Christmas" was about as hotly anticipated as it gets for a holiday shoe given the popularity of LeBron's 10th signature line. It was hard to balk at the smooth, tried-and-true combo of University Red with Grinch-esque green accents.

LeBron donned these for the first time on Christmas Day 2012 while his Miami Heat picked up a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

    Average Resale Price: $292

Kobe Bryant's Christmas "Leopard" edition was memorable for more than its looks. It debuted on Christmas Day during the season-opening slate after the 2011 lockout and was part of the Kobe 7 Predator Pack.

With leopard print, Flywire threading and the Attack Strong logo weaved into a Violet Pop/Volt eye-catcher, this technical shoe stood tall among a strong Opening Day lineup. Kobe's team lost by one to the Chicago Bulls during the unveiling, but sneakerheads won out in the long term with a versatile, bold footwear option for Christmas season.

Kevin Durant shared in the Christmas spirit of 2011 with a unique twist on the popular KD 4, bathing it in a smooth metallic copper coat atop trendy black Zoom cushioning.

Another post-lockout Christmas debut, Durant rocked these flashy seasonal takes to start the shortened year and dropped a 30-burger during Oklahoma City's win over Orlando.

Nike LeBron 8 V2 "Christmas"

    Release Date: Dec. 26, 2010

    Average Resale Price: $272

LeBron's first encounter with Kobe after joining the Heat wasn't just a stunning holiday showdown for the ages, as it also featured the King in his new LeBron 8 V2 "Christmas" colorway.

This "Run on Red" rendition played it safe in some respects with a mostly solid upper but jazzed it up with a speckled midsole and a healthy dose of Flywire. Fittingly, LeBron recorded a 27-point triple-double in a blowout victory over Kobe's Lakers.

Nike LeBron 9 "Christmas"

    Release Date: Dec. 26, 2011

    Average Resale Price: $196

LeBron got in on the holiday festivities post-lockout, too, sporting these on Christmas Day 2011 and erupting for 37 in a win over Dallas.

A Sport Red/Lucky Green combo walked the tightrope between familiarity and freshness, and a translucent outsole with some interesting lace options sure didn't hurt. It's in the eye of the beholder as to whether this is the best Christmas LeBron showing so far, but the ninth edition is no slouch.

Nike Kyrie 2 "Christmas"

    Release Date: Dec. 26, 2015

    Average Resale Price: $152

Kyrie Irving went so icy in 2015 with shades of the Abominable Snowman throughout this wintry Blue Lagoon/Omega Blue silhouette with unmistakable zigzagging teeth across the midfoot strap.

The color theme and patterns all flowed nicely over the frozen-looking, see-through outsole. Irving donned these in a loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day 2015, though it's no secret among sneakerheads and hoops fans alike that Irving and the Cavaliers got the last laugh in that particular matchup.

Kevin Durant celebrated the 2010 holiday season with a polarizing look, which is often another way of saying "memorable." He shied away from the traditional red and green for a yellow and blue monochromatic vibe that remains a wonder to this day.

Durant fittingly rolled these out in a colorful matchup between Oklahoma City and Denver, dropping 44 points in the process.
