David Fizdale: 'Can't Put a Price Tag On' LeBron James, Dwyane Wade Support
David Fizdale acknowledged how much the support from NBA stars like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade meant to him after the Memphis Grizzlies fired him in November.
"I can't put a price tag on that," Fizdale said during an appearance on ESPN Radio's The Michael Kay Show, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. "They care about you so much, they're going to come out publicly when you're fired whether they know the whole story or not. They just know I'm a heckuva guy and a good coach."
The Grizzlies fired Fizdale on Nov. 27 after the team got off to a 7-12 start. He led them to a 43-39 record and playoff appearance during the 2016-17 season.
After Fizdale's firing, James and Wade sent out tweets questioning Memphis' decision:
Fizdale worked with Wade for eight seasons and James for four seasons when he was an assistant coach for the Miami Heat from 2008-16.
The New York Knicks introduced Fizdale as their new head coach on Monday. The 43-year-old will be in charge of turning around a franchise that hasn't had a winning record or playoff appearance since the 2012-13 season.
