Steve Kerr: Rajon Rondo Trying to Trip Stephen Curry in Game 3 Was 'Dangerous'

Tyler ConwayMay 5, 2018

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters the team will likely submit video of Rajon Rondo swiping at Steph Curry's feet on a shot attempt in Friday's Game 3 loss to the league office.

"Rondo's a competitor, so they're competing," Kerr said. "I don't see anything wrong with it, other than the tripping. You can't do that. I'm all for getting under guys' skin, but you can't try to step on a guy's foot or try to swipe a guy underneath his feet as he's shooting—those are dangerous plays. ... We'll probably send it in, and it's not going to do anything, but hopefully they keep an eye on it."

Replays showed Rondo attempting to trip Draymond Green as he was walking up the court in a dead-ball situation. He's also seen sticking his foot out on a Curry jumper early in the first quarter.

Green got into Rondo's face after the attempted trip; there was no break in the action following Rondo's apparent attempt to swipe at Curry because he missed.

"I got no comment. If the league wants to look into it, that's on them. We're trying to win Game 4," Curry told ESPN's Chris Haynes.

Green and Rondo, a pair of notorious irritants, have been at each other's throats all series. Rondo was called for a technical in the fourth quarter of the Pelicans' 119-100 win over Golden State at Smoothie King Center. The veteran point guard dished out 21 assists and had 10 rebounds and four points, continuing his resurgent postseason.

"Y'all hate the storyline of somebody trying to bait me, huh? I've just got to be involved," Green told reporters. "Like, oh, Draymond's doing this. At some point, somebody's got to tell the truth. It ain't Draymond this time. ... I know that's not quite the DNA these days, people telling the truth. But at some point, y'all got to tell the truth. Draymond ain't trying to bait nobody. I'm chilling. Playing basketball.

"I look forward to y'all telling the truth one day. Maybe it won't happen. I ain't expecting it, but I do look forward to it."

The NBA fined Rondo $25,000 for attempting to trip Boston Celtics forward Jae Crowder during the 2017 postseason. Given the similarity of the infraction, it would not be a surprise to see the league office issue another fine to Rondo ahead of Game 4.
