Adidas CEO on Kanye West's Yeezy Brand: 'It's a Small Part of Our Company'

Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted commented on Kanye West and the importance of his Yeezy brand to Adidas on Thursday.

In an interview with Sara Eisen of CNBC's Squawk on the Street, Rorsted said, "There is no doubt the Yeezy brand has a fundamental impact on our overall brand position, but in the bigger context of us being a $25 billion company, it's a small part of our company."

Rorsted's remarks came on the heels of West's much-criticized interview with TMZ. He told the outlet on Tuesday that black people's suffering from slavery was "a choice."

West tweeted lofty goals and expectations for Yeezy brand on April 25:

The rapper added that Adidas once sold 400,000 pairs of the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 shoes in four hours and compared the shoes' popularity to the iPhone's.

West said that he makes "more money on shoes than Michael Jordan" as well.

Last year, Matt Powell of The NPD Group reported that Adidas surpassed Jordan Brand for the No. 2 spot in United States shoe sales, trailing only Nike.

West has worked with Adidas on the Yeezy shoe line since 2013, and he added clothing to the mix in 2015.
