Lamar Odom Tells TMZ He's Looking to Return to Basketball Overseas, Not BIG3

Former NBA power forward Lamar Odom said he's training in hopes of landing a contract with a professional team overseas.

On Thursday, TMZ Sports provided comments from Odom, who noted he's open to offers but mentioned Italy as a possibility. He downplayed the idea of joining the BIG3 basketball league.

"I'm just working out, trying to work my way back overseas," he said.

Odom won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and was named the league's Sixth Man of the Year for the 2010-11 season.

The 38-year-old New York City native last played in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2012-13 campaign. He joined Saski Baskonia in Spain for a short stint in 2014 and signed with the New York Knicks later that year, but he didn't appear in any games for the team.

Odom faced a life-threatening situation after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel in October 2015. He spent four days in a coma after the accidental drug overdose.

He discussed his recovery at The Players' Tribune last July:

"Every morning when I wake up, I look at the same pictures. Pictures of people who are gone. My mother. My grandmother. My son Jayden. My best friend Jamie. People who are still here. My two beautiful kids.

"I just look at their faces for a few minutes, and it's like a reminder of what life is supposed to be about. I feel warm. I feel an energy. I feel love. That s--t gets me through the day. It's like taking my vitamins."

Odom, the fourth overall pick in the 1999 draft, averaged 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 961 NBA regular-season appearances. He also played in 108 playoff games.
