Johnny Manziel vs. Spring League West Highlights, Twitter Reaction and Takeaways

Richard JanvrinApr 13, 2018

Coming off a less than stellar appearance in his first Spring League game with the South team, where he fumbled and was sacked three times, Johnny Manziel channeled some of the ability we were used to seeing during his days at Texas A&M in his second Spring League game on Thursday in Austin, Texas.

While he did throw for a touchdown and completed nine of his 15 passes in Saturday's game, he completed the first seven and then things took a turn for the worse.

But Manziel didn't let that performance get him down. He came back with a vengeance, completing eight of 10 passes for 145 yards in his first half on Thursday, including a 50-yard pass downfield to wide receiver Antwan Goodley.

He finished on 10-of-16 for 188 yards, one interception and two rushing touchdowns in the 34-17 loss against the West.

After putting on a stellar performance for those in attendance, Manziel spent over 45 minutes afterward signing autographs for fans, according to Jessica Morrey of KCEN:

Twitter was buzzing about Manziel's appearance, too.

Specifically, the Texas A&M branch of Barstool Sports loved what Manziel showed, as they took a moment to reminisce about old times when Manziel was wearing the maroon and white on Kyle Field:

Takeaways

At 25-years-old, Manziel is still young enough to compete in the NFL. Remember, he's not some veteran in his late-30's hoping for one last run.

Manziel has been in the news plenty over the course of his career, but it seems as though he has turned over a new leaf after going through different rehabs and ultimately taking time out of the public spotlight to reflect.

Manziel has flashes of ability that NFL teams would still fawn over.

Whether Manziel ever makes it back to the show is a different question, but he seems determined to play football no matter what.

Showcasing his abilities in The Spring League, Manziel may need to head to Canada and compete in the CFL for a year and go up against some competition.

All in all, he deserves another shot in the NFL in some capacity.

The Browns were clearly not a right fit. Manziel needs to be on a team that has an offensive-minded coach that can adapt to his playmaking ability and make him shine.

A fit that comes to mind is the Chicago Bears. Of course, they have Mitchell Trubisky, but a coach like Matt Nagy could really help Manziel's career.

Other than the Bears, teams like the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams all have capable offensive-minded coaches to help springboard Manziel's career back to relevancy.

This second Spring League game showed that Manziel is not ready to throw in the towel yet, and NFL teams should take notice.
