2018 NFL Draft Rumors: Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb Not Among Browns' Visits
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb and Alabama safety Minkah Fitzpatrick reportedly headline the group of 2018 NFL draft prospects the Cleveland Browns didn't bring in for an official predraft visit.
On Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported the Browns, who own the first and fourth overall picks, also didn't schedule any private workouts with the high-profile trio and "have no plans" to meet with them before next Wednesday's deadline.
Barkley is the most surprising name on the list.
The Nittany Lions standout dominated the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Afterward, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the dynamic rusher was "firmly in the mix" to get selected by the Browns with the No. 1 pick April 26.
Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson confirmed Barkley was under consideration earlier this month.
"We need players. You guys have seen our team. Let's be very honest," Jackson told reporters. "We need guys that come in and make a difference, and Barkley is definitely one of them. He'll be in the discussions."
He added: "I think he’s definitely in the conversation. Tremendous character, tremendous football player and I think he’s going to help an organization."
Meanwhile, the Browns announced on Thursday they are hosting Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen, another potential top-five selection, for a visit.
Although not inviting Barkley, Chubb or Fitzpatrick to meet the team's brass doesn't discount Cleveland from taking one of them in the draft, it would be unusual to invest a high pick in a player after not utilizing every available opportunity to meet with them during the process.
