Shaquill Griffin: Seahawks Organization 'Loves' Brother Shaquem Ahead of Draft
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin said the organization is targeting Shaquem Griffin, his one-handed twin brother, in the 2018 NFL draft.
On Thursday, TMZ Sports provided comments from Shaquill about potentially playing alongside his brother again after doing so in college at UCF.
"Everybody in the Seattle organization loves him. So, we're gonna see how it goes ... do whatever it takes to get him," he said.
Shaquem emerged as an impact player across his final two seasons with the Knights. He racked up 166 total tackles, 18.5 sacks, 10 passes defended, four forced fumbles and two interceptions in 26 games.
The linebacker had his left hand amputated at age four but has continued to excel on the football field. He told Alex Marvez of the Sporting News last month he uses any doubt as motivation:
"I could have been that kid who can feel all the negativities that were thrown at me. A lot of coaches and guys were saying that, 'Football wasn't for one-handed players. It's only for two-handed players.'
"Instead, I always turn a negative into a positive. I always use a negative as fuel for me to do better. Every time somebody assumed I couldn't do something, I made sure that I'd do it—and I'd do it better than they'd ever think I would."
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller projected Griffin to come off the board at No. 132 overall to the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles in his latest seven-round mock draft.
Landing with the Seahawks would likely give him a better chance to earn more consistent playing time as a rookie. He'd compete with Barkevious Mingo, D.J. Alexander and Josh Forrest for a starting job alongside Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.
Griffin, who also shined during the NFL Scouting Combine, could win that position battle.
