LeBron James has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers even though his teammates have regularly struggled.

Dwyane Wade was reunited with James at the start of the season, with the hopes that the two could rekindle some of the magic they had when they were teammates in Miami. That didn't happen, and Wade was traded in February. The acquisition of Isaiah Thomas from the Boston Celtics in the Kyrie Irving trade turned out to be an ineffective maneuver, and Thomas was subsequently shipped to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nevertheless, James is averaging 27.7 points and 9.2 assists per game, and the Cavs are once again in a position to make a run in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

While some of the talk surrounds the Cavs' postseason chances, even more concerns where James will be playing in the 2018-19 season. James has the ability to opt out of the $35.6 million he would be due to become a free agent. Recruiting billboards have gone up in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Portland and New York.

While James has said he wants to finish his career as a Cavalier, Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com reported the King is expected to become a free agent.

The Cavaliers are expected to sign veteran forward Kendrick Perkins as they prepare for the postseason. ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin reported that Perkins will sign with the Cavaliers on Wednesday, the final day of the regular season.

Perkins was a member of the Cavaliers team that made the NBA Finals in 2015, and he has played this season with the Cleveland G-League team in Canton, Ohio. Perkins last played in the NBA with the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2015-16 season.

New York could look at bringing James to the Big Apple next season. However, there is speculation the Knicks could be replacing head coach Jeff Hornacek, and if they do, Wade has already put in an endorsement for David Fizdale.

Fizdale is the former Memphis Grizzlies head coach and a longtime assistant in Miami where he worked with James and Wade. Wade called him a "phenomenal" coach, per the New York Post (h/t Joe Giglio of NJ.com).

While the idea of James coming to a struggling team like New York seems slim, the chances are better if a coach he knows and likes is there.
