Ice Cube, BIG3 Send Message to Donald Trump with Ad in New York Times
With a lawsuit on their hands, Ice Cube and the BIG3 are going straight to President Donald Trump in hopes of finding help for their case against Qatari investors.
Ice Cube and Co. took out a full-page ad in Tuesday's New York Times ahead of Trump's meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani:
TMZ Sports reported last week that Ice Cube and BIG3 co-founder Jeff Kwatinetz have filed a $1.2 billion lawsuit against Qatari investors for not following through on financial commitments to support the league.
Per Richard Morgan of the New York Post, the investors—who reportedly have ties to the royal family of Qatar—have only put up one-third of the expected $20.5 million commitment to the three-on-three basketball league. The lack of funding has allegedly hampered the organization's ability to maximize its potential.
The lawsuit is seeking $1.2 billion in damages that would provide each player with around $20 million.
Morgan provided details from the lawsuit that alleged investor Ahmed Al-Rumaihi threatened Kwatinetz while demanding 25 percent ownership share: "You don't know who I know in L.A. and what they're capable of! You should think of your safety and the safety of you and your family."
Now, it appears as though Ice Cube is hoping President Trump can help resolve the issue.
The BIG3's second season is set to tip off in Houston on June 22 and conclude with the championship in Brooklyn, New York, on Aug. 24.
