Browns Trade Rumors: QB Kevin Hogan Seeking Move Ahead of 2018 NFL Draft

Mike ChiariApr 5, 2018

Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Kevin Hogan has reportedly been granted permission to seek a trade, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

With the Browns acquiring veteran signal-caller Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills and likely to select a rookie quarterback with either the No. 1 or No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Hogan is in line to be a third-stringer next season if he remains in Cleveland.

The 25-year-old Hogan started one game last season and saw action in four contests. He finished with a 61.3 percent completion rate, 517 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions to go along with 71 rushing yards.

Hogan was a 2016 fifth-round pick out of Stanford by the Kansas City Chiefs, but he has spent each of his two NFL seasons with the Browns.

Cleveland traded 2017 starter DeShone Kizer to the Green Bay Packers and reserve quarterback Cody Kessler to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, but that didn't clear the way for Hogan.

Hogan showed some potential last season in relief of Kizer against the New York Jets, as he completed 16 of 19 pass attempts for 194 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

A starting job isn't in the cards for Hogan, but he could be a capable No. 2 elsewhere.

In 2018, look for Taylor to open as Cleveland's starter with a rookie such as USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield or Wyoming's Josh Allen behind him.
