Adam Silver Reportedly to Announce 1st Pick at NBA 2K League Draft
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will reportedly announce the first overall pick of the 2018 NBA 2K League draft Wednesday at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.com reported Silver is expected to hold a press conference before the inaugural event and then read the selection of Mavs Gaming, owned by the Dallas Mavericks.
Forbes' Brian Mazique projected the Mavs squad to take point guard DatBoyDimez with the top choice.
Speaking to reporters at the 2017 NBA All-Star Game (h/t Sports Illustrated), Silver discussed the NBA's involvement with the popular video game franchise and the top gamers who will be available for selection:
"In terms of the pool available to compete in that league, physical prowess, at least the way it's necessary on an NBA court, will no longer be necessary. It may be a different kind of physical prowess in terms of reflexes and your ability to move your thumbs very quickly, but these athletes can be any shape or size and any age and from anywhere. So we're very excited to move into that business. And an added benefit, in terms of an NBA 2K league, is that it will further engage people in the sport of basketball."
Youngmisuk noted there are 102 2K players available for the six-round draft, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET.
