Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
The Blue Devils, who lost 85-81 to Kansas in the Elite Eight, are 6-1 favorites, while Villanova comes in second at 8-1 after beating Michigan 79-62 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Rosters are still far from set, and the decisions of several key players could help shift the balance across college basketball.
Marvin Bagley III has already declared for the NBA draft, while Duke could also lose Wendell Carter Jr. and Gary Trent Jr. along with senior Grayson Allen. However, the reason there is so much excitement in Durham, North Carolina, is the incoming recruiting class.
Per 247Sports, Duke is set to bring in each of the top three players in the 2018 class in RJ Barrett, Cameron Reddish and Zion Williamson. Add in 5-star point guard Tre Jones, and there will be enough talent to contend for a title regardless of who else is on the roster.
Meanwhile, Villanova shouldn't drop off too much based on the talent set to return. Mikal Bridges is likely headed to the NBA and even AP Player of the Year Jalen Brunson could leave, but Donte DiVincenzo showed with an outstanding effort in the final that he can carry the team if needed.
With Omari Spellman and Eric Paschall, there should still be plenty of talent in 2018-19.
Kansas will also hope to continue its run of Big 12 regular-season titles with the possible returns of Malik Newman and Udoka Azubuike and the current No. 5 recruiting class, per 247Sports.
National runner-up Michigan will lose Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Duncan Robinson to graduation and likely Moritz Wagner to the draft, but Charles Matthews could keep the team competitive next season.
