Report: Derrius Guice Will Meet Steelers Brass Amid Le'Veon Bell Contract Talk
With running back Le'Veon Bell's long-term future with the franchise in question, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly set to meet with LSU running back Derrius Guice ahead of the 2018 NFL draft.
According to Jon Ledyard of FanRag Sports, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin plan to have a private dinner with Guice before his April 4 pro day.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler confirmed the report and the fact that the Steelers met with Guice at the NFL Scouting Combine as well.
Per Ledyard, the Steelers have some interest in taking Guice with their first-round pick at No. 28 overall.
The Steelers franchised Bell this offseason for the second consecutive year, and there is no indication that a long-term deal is on the horizon.
Guice is coming off consecutive strong seasons at LSU. After rushing for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016, he registered 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2017.
He is considered a potential first-round draft pick and is in the mix as the top running back prospect in the 2018 class aside from Penn State's Saquon Barkley.
In his most recent mock draft, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller predicted that the Indianapolis Colts will take Guice at No. 22 overall following a projected trade with the Buffalo Bills.
Miller also ranked Guice as the No. 2 running back and No. 28 overall player in the draft as part of his post-combine big board.
If Pittsburgh is serious about selecting Guice, it may require a trade up in the first round.
