NCAA Tournament's South Region Without Top-4 Seed in Sweet 16 for 1st Time Ever
When Nevada pulled off its thrilling 22-point comeback over Cincinnati, the Wolfpack also made history.
David Worlock, the NCAA's director of media coordination, noted this is the first time in NCAA tournament history that no top-four seed in the South Region made it to the second weekend.
The region's top remaining seed is No. 5 Kentucky, which will play either No. 9 Kansas State or No. 16 UMBC. Nevada, the region's No. 7 seed, will face off against No. 11 Loyola-Chicago.

The South has been riddled with upsets since the opening day of the tournament, which saw Loyola upset No. 6 Miami and No. 13 Buffalo take down No. 4 Arizona. Things got even wilder Friday evening when UMBC became the first No. 16 seed to take down a No. 1 with its upset of Virginia.
Loyola and Nevada clinched their Sweet 16 berths a day apart, with the former pulling off its second last-second win in three days and the latter making a rapid comeback. Nevada trailed 65-43 with 11:34 remaining before going on a 16-point run to catapult itself back into the contest. The Wolf Pack took their first lead of the game with 10 seconds remaining on a Josh Hall jumper.
The 2018 tournament has been one of the most thrilling in history, with at least six seeds fifth or lower making the trip to the second weekend.
Of course, with four of those coming from the South, there's no question about which has been the wildest region.
