Sunday Results
Louisville beats Middle Tennessee, 84-68
Middle Tennessee led Louisville, 16-15, after the first quarter. But the Cardinals took over from there.
Louisville, behind solid performances from Ray Spalding (18 points), Jordan Nwora (17 points) and Ryan McMahon (15 points) knocked off the Blue Raiders, 84-68. Nick King's big night (24 points, six rebounds) wasn't enough to keep Middle Tennessee in the NIT.
Perimeter shooting was the difference. While Louisville was hot from downtown, hitting 52.4 percent from three (11-of-21), Middle Tennessee struggled, hitting just 5-of-15 from downtown.
The No. 2 Cardinals will try to stay hot beyond the arc against Mississippi State on Tuesday.
Marquette beats Oregon, 101-92
There are shootouts, and then there was Marquette vs. Oregon. When the dust settled, the No. 2 Golden Eagles sprinted past the No. 3 Ducks, 101-92, and set a season high in points scored in the process.
Andrew Rousey was the hero, scoring 29 points and draining six three-pointers while dishing out nine assists. Markus Howard chipped in 18 points for the Golden Eagles, while MiKyle McIntosh paced the Ducks with 25 points, with a whopping 15 of them coming from the charity stripe.
Both teams were hot from the field, with Marquette shooting a torrid 57.6 percent and Oregon shooting 53.7 percent.
Oregon next faces Penn State on Tuesday.
Mississippi State beats Baylor, 78-77
The No. 4-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs knocked off No. 1-seeded Baylor on Sunday, 78-77, on Quinndary Weatherspoon's buzzer-beating three-pointer to win the game.
You couldn't ask for a wilder finish than this one provided. Manu Lecomte's drive to the bucket and basket gave the Bears a one-point lead with just five seconds on the clock, but the Bulldogs quickly pushed the ball down the other end and Weatherspoon came up with the clutch moment.
In true dramatic fashion, the shot hit the front of the rim and bounced straight upward before falling through the net.
Weatherspoon's 13 points and five assists were key for the Bulldogs, while Tyson Carter dropped 19 points off the bench and Aric Holman added 13 points and eight rebounds.
That spoiled Terry Maston's big game, as the senior forward provided 26 points and seven rebounds for Baylor.
Up next for Mississippi State is a matchup against Louisville.
