NIT 2018: Saturday's Round Scores, Updated Bracket, Sunday's 2nd-Round Schedule
The National Invitation Tournament featured only one game Saturday while much of the country focused on the NCAA tournament, but it was a good one.
In a battle of two teams that believed they deserved an at-large bid to March Madness, Tony Carr led Penn State to an upset win over Notre Dame, earning a spot in the tournament quarterfinals.

Saturday Recap
No. 4 Penn State 73, No. 1 Notre Dame 63

After the first round featured no major upsets and just one No. 5 seed beating a No. 4 seed, the second round has already seen a lot more excitement.
Notre Dame was the No. 1 overall seed but suffered a home loss to Penn State, ending the storied college careers for seniors Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell. While this isn't quite at the same level as No. 1 overall seed Virginia losing to No. 16 UMBC in the NCAA tournament, the Fighting Irish losing on St. Patrick's Day is a bit of a disappointment.
Penn State only got one point from its bench all game, but this wasn't needed with the way Carr was playing Saturday.
After scoring just two points on 1-of-12 from the field in an overtime win in Round 1, the sophomore bounced back with a game-high 24 points in Round 2. He still struggled with his shot but made up for it by going 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Josh Reaves also made a big impact with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame was uncharacteristically ice cold from three-point range, shooting just 4-of-22 from beyond the arc. Farrell went 1-of-9 himself, finishing with just nine points and six turnovers.
Colson added 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, but it wasn't enough to extend his Irish career.
While the ACC squad had dealt with devastating injuries throughout the season, it was close to 100 percent at the end of the year. Unfortunately, this only led to a second-round exit in the NIT.
Penn State will take on the winner of Oregon and Marquette in the regional final.
