Rob Gray Makes Game-Winning Layup in Wild End to San Diego State, Houston Game
It's called March Madness for a reason, and the heart-pounding drama was on full display Thursday in Houston's 67-65 victory over San Diego State.
Rob Gray sliced through the Aztec defense with the clock ticking down and connected on a contested layup to put the Cougars ahead by two with one second remaining in Wichita, Kansas. The Aztecs had a clean look at a three at the buzzer to answer and advance to the second round, but Trey Kell's attempt rimmed out and ended the back-and-forth fireworks.
The tension wasn't limited to those two possessions, as Gray drilled a three-pointer with 49 seconds left to put Houston ahead by three before Devin Watson answered with a triple of his own to tie it and set up the winning possession for Gray.
