Saturday's Semifinal Results
Kentucky 86, Alabama 63
After an up-and-down regular season, Kentucky appears to be hitting its stride, and that was evident in its 86-63 win over Alabama on Saturday.
Crimson Tide guard Collin Sexton averaged 29 points in his first two SEC tournament games, but the Wildcats managed to hold him in check by limiting him to 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
Alabama could not contain Kentucky sophomore forward Wenyen Gabriel, however, as he made an SEC tournament record seven three-point shots, according to UK Sports Network.
Gabriel was perfect from downtown in the game, as seen in this highlight reel of his performance:
He finished 7-of-8 from the field overall and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line for 23 points to go with three blocks and two rebounds.
Kentucky shot a ridiculous 64.3 percent from the field, and much of that hot shooting came in the second half, per ESPN Stats & Info:
After taking a 10-point lead into halftime, Kentucky outscored Alabama 57-44 in the second frame en route to its fifth consecutive SEC title game appearance.
The Wildcats have won the tournament in three straight years, and their current level of play suggests another is within reach.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 19 points, while PJ Washington and Kevin Knox added 14 and 11, respectively, for the Wildcats.
Kentucky swept the season series with Alabama 2-0, and it has won six of its past seven games.
Tennessee 84, Arkansas 66
In the second semifinal, favored Tennessee took care of business with an easy 84-66 triumph over the Razorbacks.
Four of the Volunteers' starters scored at least 12 points, while James Daniel III added 12 points off the bench as well in what was a balanced offensive performance.
Sophomore guard Jordan Bone, who is fifth on the team in scoring, had an unexpectedly big impact with a game-high-tying 19 points.
According to Grant Ramey of GoVols247.com, Bone came out of the gates firing in a performance that essentially came from out of nowhere:
With 17 points in the first half, Bone was a big reason why Tennessee was able to carry a 48-29 lead into halftime.
He wasn't the only one who was feeling it, though, as the entire team excelled from a jump shooting perspective in the opening half, per ESPN Stats & Info:
Bone only mustered two points in the second half, and Arkansas actually outscored Tennessee by one point in the final 20 minutes, but the final result was never in doubt.
The Razorbacks never cut the lead to less than 11 points, and Tennessee did enough in the second half to finish with 57.1 percent shooting from the field for the game.
Tennessee's win sets up a major showdown with a Kentucky team that it has already beaten twice this season.
The most recent meeting was a 61-59 road win for the Vols in February.
Tennessee will be making its first appearance in the SEC title game since 2009, and it hasn't won the tournament since beating Kentucky in 1979.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats will be making their eighth appearance in the SEC tournament final in the past nine seasons.
