The Golden State Warriors (50-14) look to extend their winning streak to seven games on Thursday when they host the San Antonio Spurs (37-27) as big home favorites. The Warriors are trying to keep pace with the Western-leading Houston Rockets, who have won 17 games in a row.

NBA point spread: The Warriors opened as 11.5-point favorites; the total is at 221.5, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Spurs can cover the spread

Even though Golden State has won six straight heading into this matchup with San Antonio, the defending NBA champions have struggled against the spread lately, going 2-5 in their last seven.

Meanwhile, the Spurs should be motivated to keep up with the top teams in the West after seeing the New Orleans Pelicans jump them by one game in the Southwest Division standings. San Antonio is not going to catch Houston for the division title, but this veteran squad cannot afford to slip too much in the standings, sitting in the fifth spot.

Why the Warriors can cover the spread

The Warriors have not looked particularly sharp recently, but they have still done whatever they have needed to do in order to stay within striking distance of the Rockets. They have closed as double-digit favorites in five of their last six games and ended up winning three of them by double figures.

Golden State has also dominated this series with the Spurs over the past year, winning seven straight (6-1 ATS), including a four-game sweep in their playoff matchup last May. As long as San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard (quad) remains out, the Warriors will not be stopped by this opponent offensively.

Smart betting pick

Golden State is clearly the superior team in this matchup and will prove it again here with another double-digit victory and cover.

The Warriors have won each of the past five meetings by 12 points or more, and three of those took place on the road. The two home meetings during that stretch were decided by an average of 26.5 points, including a 122-105 rout on February 10 when Golden State closed as a 10.5-point favorite.
