ACC Tournament 2018: Round 2 Schedule, Live-Stream Info and Bracket Predictions

Joe TanseyMar 7, 2018

Wednesday at the 2018 ACC tournament belongs to the bubble teams.

Louisville, Syracuse and Notre Dame have work to do at the Barclays Center in order to secure spots in the field of 68 on Selection Sunday.

Each of the three bubble teams possesses a unique resume, and the Fighting Irish are an intriguing side because they were affected by Bonzie Colson's injury for most of conference play.

While the Cardinals, Orange and Fighting Irish all have momentum on their side, winning won't be easy, as their respective opponents are working on improving their resumes ahead of the NCAA tournament.

NC State, a team used to being on the bubble but isn't this year, headlines the other contest in Wednesday's four-game set, as it faces Boston College.

Louisville Has Best Chance of Bubble Teams to Advance

The three ACC bubble teams don't have easy matchups, but an argument can be made Louisville having the most ideal showdown when it takes on Florida State to open the four-game slate.

The 19-12 Cardinals split their two meetings with Florida State in the regular season, as they won on January 10 by four points and lost on February 3 by the same margin.

Despite losing four of their last five regular-season games, the Cardinals should use their pair of showdowns with the Seminoles as reason to believe they can earn a rematch with Virginia, a team they lost to by a point last week.

Louisville also has the best opportunity of the trio to get off the bubble, as ESPN's Joe Lunardi lists it as the first team out of the tournament entering Wednesday:

Florida State is susceptible to a loss given its poor finish to ACC play, which featured four defeats in seven games.

Look for the experienced players on the Louisville roster to step up Wednesday afternoon, as they did during the end of conference action.

Deng Adel and Ray Spalding scored in double digits in each of their final five regular-season games, while Quentin Snider finished strong with three 10-plus-point performances against Virginia Tech, Virginia and NC State.

If Louisville's three stars start strong and avoid the letdown of playing an early weekday afternoon game, it should beat Florida State.

Notre Dame, Syracuse Need Perfect Games to Earn Upsets

Notre Dame and Syracuse are capable of pulling off upsets Wednesday, but roadblocks stand in their way of doing so in Brooklyn, New York.

The Fighting Irish convinced no one they are an NCAA tournament team when they beat Pittsburgh, who went winless in ACC play, by three points in Tuesday's first round.

Mike Brey's team stumbled in the second half due to horrific shooting, but it saved the game at the free-throw line, as ESPN Stats and Info noted:

Notre Dame didn't impress many analysts with its performance against Pitt, including Yahoo's Brad Evans:

In order to restore the faith of the public, the Fighting Irish must beat Virginia Tech in dominant fashion, and play well against Duke in the quarterfinals in order to make a legitimate case for a spot in the field of 68.

Syracuse rode its starting five to a 73-64 victory over Wake Forest in the first round, with Marek Dolezaj leading the team with 20 points.

Although the performance of Syracuse's top players must be commended, it may not be enough to beat North Carolina, especially if one of the stars gets into foul trouble.

NEW YORK, NY - MARCH 06: Tyus Battle (25) of the Syracuse Orange works against Bryant Crawford (13) of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the second half during the first round of the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament at Barclays Center on March 6, 2018 in Ne

Syracuse received zero points from its bench players in eight minutes, and with a long run in the ACC tournament needed to secure a berth in the Big Dance, there are plenty of concerns about the Orange's depth.

Of course the counterpoint to that argument is Syracuse's stars could all get hot and carry the team, as we've seen in past years during March from a wide array of programs.
