Game 12: (7) Penn State vs. (3) Purdue, 4:30 p.m. ET
Michigan State 63, Wisconsin 60
Michigan State went on a 7-0 run after the game was tied at 51 and Wisconsin could never get back level despite a rally in the final minutes, which ends the Badgers' hopes of making the Big Dance.
Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com discussed the expected end of Wisconsin's tourney streak, but also the bright future that lies ahead:
Miles Bridges led the way for the Spartans with 20 points and nine rebounds. Cassius Winston was the only other player in double figures for Sparty with 17 points to go along with five boards and five assists.
Ethan Happ posted a game-high 22 points for the Badgers, who were outrebounded 41-27. Brad Davison and Khalil Iverson each chipped in 10 points apiece.
Michigan 77, Nebraska 58
Michigan cruised to the semifinals and Nebraska ensured it will spend Selection Sunday on the edge of its seat as a bubble team.
ESPN's Joe Lunardi listed the Cornhuskers among his “First Four Out” entering the day, which makes the loss all the more concerning. Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic passed along comments from head coach Tim Miles about the situation:
Moritz Wagner posted a double-double for the Wolverines with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman led all scorers with 21. Duncan Robinson added 16 points on the strength of four three-pointers off the bench for the winning side.
Isaiah Roby tallied 18 points, seven boards and five blocks for Nebraska.
Penn State 69, Ohio State 68
Neither team led by more than three over the final six minutes as Penn State scored the game's last five points to storm back for an upset of Ohio State.
It's the Nittany Lions' third victory of the season over the Buckeyes and moves them one step closer to the NCAA tournament. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports believes a semifinal triumph could be enough to solidify their spot in the field of 68, regardless of the result in the championship game:
Josh Reaves scored the final four points—two free throws and a dunk—for Penn State after making just one of his first 11 shots in the game. Tony Carr was the team's go-to player for the first 39 minutes with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Keita Bates-Diop matched Carr with 25 points for Ohio State. The Buckeyes allowed the Nittany Lions to shoot 47.4 percent from three while making just 34.8 percent attempts from deep.
Purdue 82, Rutgers 75
Rutgers' dream of being the Big Ten Tournament's Cinderella came to an end with an 82-75 loss to Purdue.
Per CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, the Boilermakers' victory could have a significant impact on the NCAA tournament depending on what happens Saturday:
Corey Sanders, who had 23 points in the game, had a rough time down the stretch for Rutgers. He missed the front end of a one-and-one trailing 78-75 with 31 seconds remaining and turned the ball over on the Scarlet Knights' next possession.
After winning just three conference games during the regular season, Rutgers was playing its third game in three days. Fatigue appeared to take over in the second half after the Scarlet Knights had a 38-35 lead at the intermission.
Purdue stormed out of the gates with an 11-3 run to begin the second half and never trailed after that point. Vincent Edwards and Carsen Edwards led the way with 26 points each for the Boilermakers.
One key difference in the outcome was Purdue going 13-of-30 from three-point range, compared to 5-of-14 for Rutgers.
