Predictions

COLLEGE PARK, MD - JANUARY 18: Anthony Cowan #1 of the Maryland Terrapins dribbles the ball up court during a college basketball game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers at XFinity Center on January 18, 2018 in College Park, Maryland. The Terrapins won

Maryland won the sole meeting between these teams, and in a matchup that should be pretty even, that's as good a separating factor as any. Neither team fared particularly well in Big Ten play, and it's hard to imagine either Maryland or Wisconsin advancing beyond Thursday.

Anthony Cowen and Kevin Huerter should carry the day for the Terrapins. Maryland's waning NCAA tournament hopes hang in the balance.

Michigan will be the prohibitive favorite over Iowa, and for good reason. The Wolverines went 13-5 in league play and beat Iowa twice, while the Hawkeyes went 4-14 in the Big Ten and just 14-18 overall.

Michigan has a legitimate shot at winning the Big Ten title. Iowa would shock the college basketball world by beating the Wolverines. It won't happen.

Penn State at Northwestern is a fascinating matchup. The Nittany Lions could potentially play their way into the NCAA tournament with a deep run in the Big Ten Tourney, coming into the matchup with a 19-12 record.

The teams split the season series, however, meaning a Thursday win is hardly a foregone conclusion. The Nittany Lions will need big performances from Tony Carr and Lamar Stevens to avoid an upset that would kill their already slim NCAA tournament hopes.

Indiana, meanwhile, needs to win this tournament to qualify for the NCAA edition, which is a long shot at best. What isn't a long shot is Indiana beating a Rutgers team that went 3-15 in Big Ten play and lost in its sole meeting with the Hoosiers.

Rutgers knocking off Indiana would certainly be a shocker.

Look for Maryland, Michigan, Penn State and Indiana to advance. Chalk prevails.
