Ohio State Earns Thrilling Upset Win over Isaac Haas, No. 3 Purdue
Chris Holtmann's Ohio State Buckeyes are for real in his first season as the program's head coach.
Ohio State went into Mackey Arena and came away with a crucial 64-63 road win over the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers to move into a tie for first place in the Big Ten at 12-1. Conference Player of the Year candidate Keita Bates-Diop led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds, drilling the game-winning shot with three seconds remaining after an offensive rebound.
Isaac Haas had an opportunity to win it for Purdue at the buzzer, but his shot rimmed out.

Thanks to Bates-Diop's shot, the Buckeyes snapped the nation's longest winning streak of 19 games:
Both sides battled in the first half, with Purdue taking a two-point advantage into intermission, but it appeared the home team was in full control when Carsen Edwards' basket stretched its lead to 53-39 with less than 11 minutes remaining.
The one-two combination of Haas on the inside and Edwards on the outside looked to be too much for the Scarlet and Gray for extended stretches.
Haas finished with 18 points and had Ohio State big man Kaleb Wesson in foul trouble throughout, and Edwards poured in 28 points while posting six rebounds, three assists and two steals and drilling four three-pointers when the Buckeyes collapsed on Haas in the post.
However, Bates-Diop dialed up the offensive production down the stretch with eight of his points coming after the visitors fell behind by 14.
He wasn't without help. Andre Wesson and Musa Jallow provided critical shooting with six three-pointers between them. They were averaging 2.2 and 2.4 points per game, respectively, entering the contest, but Wesson tallied 13 and Jallow added 10.
It was needed production on the wing since Kam Williams is suspended indefinitely.
Many of the looks for Wesson and Jallow were open because of the attention Bates-Diop attracted, but Jae'Sean Tate handled the ball throughout Ohio State's closing stretch and directed the offense to a number of clean shots.
He tallied 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals in a strong overall effort.
Ohio State will look to keep things rolling Saturday when it returns home to face Iowa, while things don't get much easier for Purdue with a road game against No. 4 Michigan State on the same day.
