Why the Fighting Irish can cover the spread
While Duke has lost just three games all season, Notre Dame will be looking to break a five-game losing streak, with the team's last victory coming against the Syracuse Orange back on January 6.
But the Fighting Irish have played the Blue Devils tough over the years, winning five of the past eight meetings straight up, according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database, and going 6-3 against the spread in the last nine. In addition, Notre Dame has lost just one game by double digits this season.
Why the Blue Devils can cover the spread
The Blue Devils have bounced back nicely from each of their previous two losses this year, winning their next game by an average of nearly 50 points. They will be hitting the road for three games after hosting Notre Dame, too, so bettors should expect a motivated team to take out its frustrations at home.
Duke is still 4-2 ATS in its last six games despite the loss to Virginia and 2-0 ATS in the past two meetings with the Fighting Irish, who were swept in the season series a year ago.
Smart betting pick
Senior guard Matt Farrell is out for this game for the Fighting Irish due to an ankle injury, and he is the team's second-leading scorer (15.7 points per game). Without him in the lineup, Notre Dame will struggle to keep up on the scoreboard.
The Blue Devils have averaged more than 80 points in the previous four games versus the Fighting Irish, who have averaged 66.4 during their skid, including a double-overtime affair that was tied 62-62 at the end of regulation in which Farrell played. He has not played in four of the last six, and Notre Dame will miss him again. Bet Duke to win big and cover the spread.
College basketball betting trends
Notre Dame is 1-4 ATS in its last five games.
Duke is 4-2 ATS in its last six games.
The total has gone under in five of Duke's last six games.
