Why the Spurs can cover the spread

Like Utah, San Antonio will be playing the second game of a back-to-back situation, and the team has gone 5-1 SU in its last six under that scenario this season. The Spurs closed as small road underdogs Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers and won 93-91 without Tony Parker or Kawhi Leonard in the lineup because they are playing consecutive nights.

They have also won six of the past eight meetings with the Jazz SU, going 5-2-1 ATS during that stretch, according to the OddsShark NBA Database.

Why the Jazz can cover the spread

Utah has been a very good home team this year, backed up by going 11-5 SU and ATS at Vivint Smart Home Arena so far. The Jazz have been far worse on the road at 3-13 SU and 6-10 ATS, and their recently completed trip featured opponents who were among the hottest teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences when they played them.

Like San Antonio, Utah has played well in the second game of back-to-backs too, going 3-2 SU and 5-0 ATS in their last five dating back to November 11.

Smart betting pick

You never know who Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich will rest in this spot, so the Jazz are a much better option to cover the spread at home. While San Antonio has won five of six in the second game of a back-to-back situation, the team has failed to cover four straight and seven of nine when playing with no rest.

Before losing 112-101 at home to the Houston Rockets in the midst of their 14-game winning streak on December 7, the Jazz had won five in a row there both SU and ATS. Play Utah.

NBA betting trends

San Antonio is 2-4 ATS in its last six games.

The total has gone under in nine of San Antonio's last 10 games on the road.

Utah is 5-1 ATS in its last six games at home.
