Derek Fisher Debuts on 'Dancing with the Stars'

Five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher is now competing for the Mirrorball Trophy as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

In their first week, Fisher and his partner Sharna Burgess placed eighth out of 13 competitors and scored 18 out of 30 points.

The longtime Los Angeles Laker traded the hardwood court for the dance floor but looked natural with his ballroom dance partner. He showed off a slim figure, dribbled a basketball and wore purple and gold one more time in his first performance.

The 43-year-old's coaching tenure with the New York Knicks ended abruptly with a 40-96 record, but he may extend his television shelf life with a long run on the ABC series.
