BIG3 League Championship 2017 TV Schedule, Live Stream and Predictions

Chris RolingAug 26, 2017

Four remain and two tangle for a championship as the Big3's inaugural season comes to a close in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Undefeated Trilogy face their biggest challenge of the year against 3 Headed Monsters, a team led by league MVP Rashard Lewis. The runner-up game beforehand promises quality action as well when Power and Ghost Ballers get together

While the finals moved to make room for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor bout, Saturday is the perfect way for the startup traveling league to make one final impression. As usual, major celebrities and names will show up on the sidelines.

This weekend is a celebration as much as it is a way for the Big3 to crown a champion.

It has been a successful run for the league, to say the least. The festive spirit boiled over when announcing the individual awards. There, Trilogy mopped up most, with Lewis winning MVP on the back of averaging 21.3 points per game. His coach, Rick Mahorn, won Coach of the Year while Kenyon Martin grabbed Player Captain of the Year after being a strong leader on and off the court when he missed time.

But that's not even the end of it for Trilogy. James White grabbed Defensive Player of the Year and Al Harrington reeled in Too Hard to Guard.

Stephen Jackson of the Killer 3s took home what some might consider one of the league's most important pieces of hardware:

Like any other league, though, most players would concur team triumphs trump individual awards.

Sunday's runner-up game places Power against Ghost Ballers, a pair of .500 teams that were a few plays away from playing for something greater. Case in point—Power suffered a near-miss a week ago, losing to 3 Headed Monsters 50-46, while the league MVP drained back-to-back late shots to put away the contest. Ghost Ballers didn't look as hot, going down 50-39 against Trilogy.

While on the topic of 3 Headed Monsters, it's the depth there that makes their encounter with Trilogy so intriguing. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf doesn't get the hype of Lewis or Kwame Brown, but his 19 points keyed his team against Power.

Combating depth seems to be what Trilogy is built to do, though. Martin and Harrington underneath the basket has been the combination no team has matched physically, which has opened up Rashad McCants to do plenty of scoring.

For Martin, winning one more game is what it's all about and why he plans on returning to the league next season, as he told Sports Illustrated's Rohan Nadkarni:

"I had a missed opportunity to win a championship in college, I got hurt my senior year. I made it to the Finals twice in the NBA and came up short. I've been on the doorstep but couldn't get over the top. Winning is everything no matter where you're doing it in. This is the first year of the league, so for me to say that I have a BIG3 championship is going to be very important to me."

Of course, 3 Headed Monsters likely feels the same way. And like league founder Ice Cube pointed out to Complex's Russ Bengtson, someone like Lewis has blossomed because this league lets him leave his defined NBA role.

"And to see a guy who in the league he had to kind of play his role, in the NBA, but in our league he was able to show he's an MVP. So it was pretty cool. Pretty incredible," Ice Cube said.

When it comes time to nail down predictions, well, the runner-up game is harder to project than the title game itself.

The biggest difference between Power and Ghost Ballers is the former's scoring potential, which DeShawn Stevenson and Cuttino Mobley tend to do in droves. Mike Bibby is a threat to hit four-point shots, though he'll engage in a race on Saturday he can't win on his own.

In the title game, look for Trilogy to cap off the perfect season. Lewis has been outstanding, but he's going against a well-oiled machine capable of blocking off the paint and sticking the Defensive Player of the Year on him.

There is a reason Trilogy won four games by more than 10 points this year and all eight by five or more. A team is great when a guy like Rashad McCants—the No. 1 pick and averaging 18.3 points per game—hardly gets a mention while those around him reel in awards.

It's only fitting a team so dominant hoists the league's first championship.

Prediction: Power 51, Ghost Ballers 45; Trilogy 52, 3 Headed Monsters 48
