Ice Cube Rejects Terrell Owens' Plea to Join BIG3 League
Terrell Owens may want to play in the BIG3, but it's not going to happen.
League commissioner Ice Cube is holding firm on the BIG3's rule of only allowing former NBA players in the league, per TMZ Sports, exempting Owens from admission.
Owens previously told TMZ he had tried to join the BIG3 and had his efforts rebuffed.
"Hey Cube, my football prowess, that speaks for itself. But I think that if you asked around the BIG3 league and even outside of that, the guys know that I can hoop," Owens said on the TMZ video when asked how he might approach Ice Cube to join the league. "I like what you guys are doing, man. Let me come out there and display some of my skills and play against the best."
The former NFL wideout does have a basketball background, having played in both high school and college. And Owens revealed in June that basketball was his first love.
"I’m a basketball fan at heart," he told Josh Peters of USA Today. "My passion isn’t football, but a lot of people don’t know that."
He added: "If I had to choose between football and basketball, I’m taking that roundball all day. I probably would have had a longer career in basketball than I did in football. People don’t know that, but yes."
Nonetheless, the 43-year-old said at the time he was keeping his dream to return to the NFL alive. Owens last played in the league in the 2010 season.
