Clippers head coach Doc Rivers and Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau previously worked with Allen when he played for the Celtics from 2004-10, when Rivers was with the team and Thibodeau was an assistant from 2007-10.
Allen has spent the last seven seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and has been a solid role player. The 35-year-old averaged 9.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in 71 games last season.
The Clippers are in search of depth at shooting guard after losing Jamal Crawford. The Timberwolves don't yet have a shooting guard on their roster, though Shams Charania of the Vertical reported Crawford will sign a two-year deal with the team when he clears waivers.
